Comment |
Erect Form. Pruning Group 14. "Achillea can be mat-forming or upright perennials, mostly herbaceous, with sometimes aromatic, pinnately divided or simple and toothed leaves and flattened clusters of small, daisy-like flower-heads. 'Cloth of Gold' is a tall, robust perennial to 1.8m, with divided foliage, and large, flattened heads of bright yellow flowers. Good for drying. An open sunny position in a moist but well-drained soil is best, but it will tolerate most situations apart from heavy, wet clay in winter." from Royal Horticultural Society. "The cultivar 'Cloth of Gold' has light green foliage and deep golden blooms that attract bees and many attractive insects. Drought tolerant and hardy, they are excellent for use in dried flower-arrangements." from BBC. "Sow Achillea seed from February to June or September to October on the surface of a good seed compost, and cover with a light sprinkling of compost of vermiculite. Place in a propagator at a temperature of 15-24C (59-75F) or seal the seed tray inside a polythene bag until after germination, which usually takes 1- 3 weeks. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3") pots and grow on in cooler conditions. When Achillea plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting outdoors. Plant Yarrow at a distance of 60cm (24") apart in full sun in any well drained soil. Overwinter September sowings in a cold frame and plant out the following spring." from Thompson & Morgan . "This achillea is long-lasting, and drought-tolerant, but needs a lot of space to spread out. Try it in a sunny spot at the back of a herbaceous border, or among grasses, but be sure to stake it, as it tends to flop over in wet weather. It makes an excellent cut flower. Achilleas do not like wet soil. Stake using bamboo canes or brushwood before the flowers appear. Cut down to the ground in late winter. Lift and divide large clumps in late autumn or early spring." from Telegraph Garden Shop. "Annual care:-
